Back when Wendy and I got married, a choreographed wedding dance was not really a thing. The bride and groom just did the high school sway. But even then couples still picked their favorite wedding dance love song, something that spoke to both partners about their relationship. Ours was “You and I” by Eddie Rabbit.

Now, as dance teachers who choreograph and train dozens of couples every year to perform their wedding dance, we’ve been exposed to hundreds of song choices. There have been years where a particular love song seems to dominate, with a large number of couples choosing the same one. One year it seemed as if everyone wanted to dance to Ed Sheeran’s Perfect.

But in general we get exposed to a large number of songs that are beautiful love songs, yet music that we’ve rarely or never heard before. We get surprised by choices that are unusual, ranging from Metallica to classics like the Grand Waltz, a Viennese Waltz that can be quite a challenge for a couple with zero dance experience.

Since we are geographically located in a region with a large south Asian population, we’ve gotten to know some beautiful Punjabi love songs such as Do Gallan (Let’s Talk) and Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, which apparently comes from a Bollywood motion picture.

Here, in no particular order, are just some of the wedding dance songs we’ve been asked to choreograph to over the past few years. With music like this, and the warmth and joy of working with couples who are deeply in love and having fun, is it any wonder that we love being dance teachers?
