Fly Me to the Moon

Artist: Anita O'Day

Album: Verve Jazz Masters 49

Song Length: 3:48

George's Thoughts: I love this song. Unfortunately most versions are not suitable for the Waltz, either too fast or with awkward instrumentation that you can't dance to. Frank Sinatra's in 4/4 time makes a great Slow Foxtrot piece. Anita's version is very nice and just jazzy enough that it makes a distinctive difference from the big-band styling of most Waltz songs. Another excellent version can be found on Madacy's compilation album "Strictly Slow Waltz." A version sung by Dina Washington is found on "The Ultimate Ballroom Album 5" but I find that one quite irritating because of the grating background vocals.

Song Lyrics:

Fly me to the moon
Let me sing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On jupiter and mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
