George's Thoughts: Another popular Latin hit that's been performed by a vast number of artists including Herbie Hancock. But nothing quite comes close to Mongo Santamaria's richly flavored version that made the top 10 charts in 1963. The strict-tempo version is good but the overall quality isn't as good as the chart hit version, though it does have some interesting vocal effects. I normally don't like dancing to instrumentals as much as vocal songs, but because the tune is so great and familiar, this one gets the feet wanting to move.
