You won't admit you love me and so
How am I ever to know
You always tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
A million times I ask you and then
I ask you over again
You only answer
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't want to wind up
Being parted, broken hearted
So if you really love me say, "yes"
But if you don't, dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
If you can't make your mind up
We'll never get started
And I don't want to wind up
Being parted, broken hearted
So if you really love me say, "yes"
But if you don't, dear, confess
And please don't tell me
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps

Artist: Doris Day
Album: Strictly Ballroom Soundtrack
Song Length: 2:33
George's Thoughts: An absolutely delightful Rumba song made popular in the movie "Strictly Ballroom," where it served as a key theme of the story. One of my all-time favorites. Despite the age of the recording, it has great audio fidelity and is still suitable today for any dance event. Doris Day's version also meets competitive tempo regulations. Another more recent version by Lila Downs from her album "Border (La Linea)" is outstanding as well, with even better Latin flavoring but it has an extremely complex tempo with many pauses and at 28bpm that version is too fast for competition use. I've seen other versions of this song on strict tempo albums but curiously mostly without vocals. The vocals are what gives it such power.
