Charade

Artist: Bobby Darin

Album: The Ultimate Ballroom Album 5

Song Length: 2:19

George's Thoughts: This classic Henry Mancini piece from the charming motion picture of the same name has been adapted to every dance from the Slow Waltz to the Viennese Waltz, and both in 3/4 and 4/4 timing. It just seems to work no matter what you do with it. A delightful selection at any speed. I've heard other Bobby Darin versions which were too fast and complex for Quickstep, but this version is perfect.

Song Lyrics:

When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out names
Guessing the parts we played

Oh what a hit we made
We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
Love left the masquerade

Fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on

Sad little serenade
Song of my heart's composing
I hear it still, I always will
Best on the bill
Charade
